You are within an extraordinary area of vineyards, idyllic villages, world-renowned towns, and summer sunflowers in Les Alpilles Natural Park and beyond. Eygalières is a short drive away, is one of the loveliest in the whole region and here you will find charming restaurants and maybe a house or two belonging to a couple of A-list celebrities!
The pretty village of Mollégès can easily be reached by a little road which winds through the countryside providing glimpses of orchards, avenues of cypress trees and swathes of wild flowers, always with the stunning backdrop of the hills.
Within easy reach is also the chic town of St-Rémy-de-Provence (10km), once the source of creativity for Van Gogh and now inspiring the resident artists who sell their work in local galleries. Gastronomers will enjoy the Michelin starred restaurants here as well as the Wednesday morning market.
You will love Les Baux-de-Provence (19km), one of France’s acclaimed ‘plus beaux villages’ a medieval jewel perfectly perched on a rocky outcrop. A few kilometres south from Les Baux is the charming village of Mausanne, set in the Vallée des Baux and well known for its excellent olive oil produced in its two remaining windmills, which you are able to sample.
Nearby Cavaillon, a city bridge between Les Alpilles and the Luberon, is ideal for relaxing in its terraced cafés, shopping and buying melons from the markets. Don’t forget to look at the most beautiful synagogue in Europe and the 12th century cathedral. In the centre is the verdant St Jacques’s Hill which can be climbed for magnificent views over the surrounding regions.
Having explored the local town and villages, travel northwards towards the river Rhône and the medieval city of Avignon with its two UNESCO world heritage sites, the Pope’s Palace and Saint Benezet Bridge. The weekend farmer’s, flower and flea markets sell good local produce as well as a bargain or two.
For more adventure head south west towards the historic city of Arles, well known for its fascinating Roman remains and gateway to the wonders of La Camargue with its beaches, lagoons, rice fields, galloping white horses and iconic pink flamingos. There are many family activities to be found here including horse riding, trekking, quad biking and jeep tours across this fascinating landscape.
