Description

Gaze out over vineyards and fields of sunflowers from your beautiful home and incredible gardens at Chateau des Vignes. Here you are in the heart of Gascony, the home of undulating hills, idyllic bastide villages and some of the finest gastronomy in the world.

The estate dates back to medieval times when there was a fortified chateau and rumours of an underground tunnel running from a neighbouring church in case of religious persecution. In the 18th century it commenced the production of Armagnac, so famous in this region and continued to do so until recently; the ancient chai remains in the grounds. You are still surrounded by magnificent vineyards with some of the finest wine and Armagnac producers nearby, one just across the fields from the chateau.

The setting is truly remarkable with splendid views of vines, sunflowers and countryside towards the UNESCO listed church on the hill. The gardens are glorious with over five hectares of immaculate lawns, ancient shady trees and the scent of lavender as you wander down the pretty paths to find your own private corner. Sun-loungers are dotted across the lawns that surround the magnificent pool as you gaze at the vistas of the Gascony countryside that surrounds you. It's a true haven of tranquillity.

The main chateau has been lovingly restored with traditional style with wonderful features such as the stone staircase, beautifully tiled floors, pretty fabrics in the three bedrooms and wood beamed ceilings. It feels homely yet magical, a timeless place for complete relaxation. The traditional wood burning fire-place in the kitchen is charming and contrasts perfectly with the modern amenities whilst the elegant dining room is fit for a candle-lit feast. There are plenty of places to relax with two salons, each with doors leading to the wonderful gardens.

Just on the other side of the chateau is a self-contained villa, ideal for inter-generational families or friends wanting to holiday together. With a more contemporary feel yet still furnished with classical pieces, the villa offers light and airy living space, a well equipped kitchen and two pretty bedrooms plus a separate studio bedroom. French doors open up to a lovely lawn which leads up to the inviting pool.

This is The Gers, the heart of Gascony, Musketeers and foie gras. This is the real France where guests can immerse themselves in authentic, fortified villages, market towns, plenty of traditional local events and some of the best food and wine in the world. Three of France's ‘Plus Beaux Villages', Fources (9km), Larresingle (10km) and Montreal du Gers (15km) are all within a short drive, as is the picturesque town of Condom, where you can hire boats and dine in a Michelin starred restaurant. Be sure to visit the vibrant local market towns to pick up some of the country's finest produce from this region.

Keen walkers can hike across the neighbouring fields and vineyards to the UNESCO listed church and beyond whilst cyclists will love the quiet roads, gentle hills and stunning scenery.

There's no doubt that Chateau des Vignes is a paradise, so quiet and private yet it's hard to believe that so many highlights of this extraordinary region are within such easy reach.
