Description

"Unless you leave room for Serendipity, how can the divine enter?" - Joseph Campbell

This charming new home, located in the quiet fishing/farming village of Treasure Beach, is divine! It has two levels, each with a private entrance. The upper level is used by the owners 2 - 3 months out of the year. The lower level is available for guests and boasts French doors in two rooms that offer expansive views of the Caribbean Sea and the charming village below. (NOTE: We are unable to make changes to the map showing the location. It is wrong. We are located on a hillside in Sandy Bank, not in Old Wharf.)

The guest unit has two-bedrooms and sleeps up to six - on a queen-sized bed, two twin beds that can be converted to a king-size bed, and a convertible sofa-bed. An open floor plan and multiple windows ensure a lovely breeze flows throughout the space, keeping guests cool and creating an open, expansive feel. Adirondack chairs and a hammock on the large 10x32' veranda will allow you to while away the afternoon in complete relaxation. The Asian inspired decor creates a calming environment that you may never want to leave, but be sure to spend some time visiting the cluster of shops, restaurants, and Jake's Resort a 10-minute walk away. Eat out or prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchenette. A range, small refrigerator, toaster, and coffee maker, along with dishes and cookware will provide any cook with what they need to prepare a gourmet meal.

The bathroom is adorned with whimsical tile work by local tile artist, Ronda Bennett. Enjoy a nice hot shower after cooling off in the Caribbean.

From the doors and windows, to the sofa and chairs, our home is equipped with hand-made, one-of-a-kind furnishings, created by local craftsmen.

Sports enthusiasts will enjoy the best seat in the house when cricket or soccer matches occur in the Treasure Beach Sports Park below the property. Or, for those who are more active, tennis courts, a basketball court, children's playground and playing fields are available at the Sports Park. Others, who prefer the beauty of nature will delight in the soaring John Crows (known in the US as turkey vultures) that circle on the breezes just off the verandas, listening to the birds' songs, and the spectacular views.

(NOTE: The Sports Park hosts Saturday night soccer parties from January to early April. The sound from the announcer and music can be very loud at those times.)

Guest Services

Guests enjoy wifi using the home's wife network. It's important to note that internet service is variable. Sometimes it's great and you can stream videos or music. Other times it's very slow or even off.

Private drivers to tourist attractions or other destinations, or for airport transport, are also available for an additional fee.

Guests experience the privacy of a home and the conviviality of life in a neighborhood. Enjoy chats with the neighbors or owners when they are on-site, or relax in the peace and quiet of your own space. A local property manager is available to meet any needs as they may arise.

The Neighborhood

Treasure Beach, home to "community tourism", is the name given to a string of five fishing villages located on the south coast of Jamaica. Our little neighborhood, known as Sandy Bank, is comprised of long-time fishermen whose families here go back generations, and who welcome visitors with open arms. More recent additions to the greater community include Europeans, Americans and Canadians who now make Treasure Beach their home, and brought their skills as artists, musicians and body-workers with them. This mix has created a dynamic, hip, vibrant and thriving community.

Getting around

Everything is within easy reach by foot or bicycle (available for renting at Jake's Resort on the main road). But, if you want to go further afield, route taxis cruise through Treasure Beach throughout the day. For as little as $3.25US, you can catch a taxi into Black River to experience the hustle bustle of that busy little community. If you want to go further, many taxi drivers can be hired for the day (ask for names of trusted drivers), or Treasure Tours, a local tourism company can provide transportation.
