Beyond your own garden, you can stroll in the 16 hectare grounds of the château and whilst the pretty village has very few shops, there is a restaurant 4kms away and all services in the pretty cathedral town of Fontenay Le Comte 9kms away. There is also the lovely lake at Mervent (4kms) with breathtaking views, several watersports and a man-made beach, and Mervent has its own small zoo too. Visit the village of Vouvant voted one of the prettiest in France, and the coast is an hour away, perfect for a day out. Try also to visit historic La Rochelle with its famous city and harbour and county town of the Charente Maritime. And a visit to the Puy du Fou is a trip back in time with a cast of hundreds re-enacting the history of the Vendée and one of the most popular shows in the whole of France.
