In Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park, Le Champ d’Olives is surrounded by five hectares of incredible olive groves and the views are spectacular. It’s around a ten-minute drive to a charming village which specialises in olive oil production.
The local village is home to some excellent places to eat including Michelin-starred establishments as well as more down to earth bistros and a pizzeria. There are also a handful of lovely shops such as a choice of boulangeries, a couple of grocery stores, a fishmonger and a butcher.
This area is especially famous for its olive oil and you can visit working farms or the olive oil presses to experience how the oil is made, learn about the history of this process and of course sample the product, some of the finest olive oils in France.
Les Alpilles offers wonderful opportunities for hiking, cycling, mountain biking and horse-riding through the beautiful and varied landscapes. There are also rock-climbing opportunities as well as the more leisurely pursuit of golf with stunning courses across the region, including the Domaine de Manville near Les-Baux-de-Provence. The local village also offers tennis courts to hire.
There are also many amazing villages, towns and cities to explore. Start with Les Baux-de-Provence, just under fifteen minutes away by car, where you can dine in excellent restaurants in a wonderful setting in this incredibly picturesque village. Explore the narrow lanes, admire the village château or just rest and enjoy a coffee or glass of local wine in a pretty café.
Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, around 20 minutes away, is also a popular town to visit with its Wednesday morning market, charming restaurants and cafes and its Van Gogh trail (after all, this is where Van Gogh painted world-famous Starry Night amongst many others). Also a short drive away is Eygalières (20km), another archetypal Provencal village which is so beautiful that a number of celebrities have chosen to buy houses there.
The small city of Avignon is just to the north of Les Alpilles region, a great place to visit for its fascinating history, incredible architecture including Saint Benezet Bridge and the Pope’s Palace, two UNESCO world heritage sites and also the lovely markets, restaurants, bars and overall charming ambience.
The wonderful city of Arles, to the south, was also loved by Vincent Van Gogh and is also very near the beautiful Camargue region, around an hour away, where you can see wild horses and pink flamingos across the stunning landscapes of land and sea.
A little further afield, visit some of the enchanting Provencal villages of the Luberon region, sample some fine Côtes du Rhône wines (Châteauneuf-du-Pape is under an hour away) or canoe along the river towards the great town of L'Isle Sur La Sorgue, known for its antique shops and great Sunday morning brocante.
