Originating from the 14th century, the Manor de Chalandes is renowned for its astonishing private gardens on the edge of the Loire, Brittany and the River Villaine. The Manor even has its own spa and is a rare treat for those who enjoy pure relaxation and style. Interestingly, the Manor de Chalandes was once a safe house during the 2nd World War. It stood centrally to the French Resistance movement lead by Marie Moquet.
The Manor de Chalandes is ideal for parties, anniversaries, weddings, clay pigeon shoots, marvellous banquets and world class dinners with the region's best wines to accompany them. Stay for a day, a weekend or longer. Michelle, the owner, is a superb host and will make sure you are well catered for during your stay.
The famous gardens at the Manor de Chalandes were designed by a leading landscape gardener to the Queen called Alan Manson. Mason wanted to create a vision of royalty that would survive all seasons. There are over 10,000 species of plants and flowers, many that are both rare and exotic. Parts of the gardens are open to the public. However, the gardens are so vast that they do not interfere with your holiday experience or privacy.

Please note that the property can accommodate groups of up to 20 when hiring the neighbouring cottage in conjunction with the manor. It can sleep up to 4 in 2 double rooms and is available for €100 per night.

Steps lead on to the terrace that overlooks the formal lawns and lake, always a popular place for cocktails or after dinner drinks.
The ‘salle-a-manger' is now how it would have been in the 15th century with exposed stone walls and floor, massive oak dining tables and access to the main tower (now the bar). There is an arched doorway through to the library, formerly the coach-house, but now used as a conference room with all modern communication facilities. There is also a kitchen on the ground floor however catering can be provided.
The Romanesque heated spa pool is situated in the centre of the barn buildings. Seating at least 12, this hand crafted mosaic construction is unique in France. The gardens have attracted visitors from all over the world, many comparing its beauty to that of Monet's garden near Paris, and remains open to the public at various times of the year. Guests of the Manoir de Chalandes have privileged free access to the gardens. The grounds of this Manor are secure and safe and not close to any main road making it an ideal place for children.
