Description

A long driveway, dramatically lined with centuries-old cypress trees, leads up to the impressive Castello San Savino. First built in the Middle Ages, then extended during the renaissance into an aristocratic residence, the Castello, and its private chapel, is situated in a panoramic position upon a hilltop. It is shown on the map of Valdichiana drawn by Leonardo da Vinci in 1503. The property has belonged to the same family for centuries and lies at the center of a large estate where the family produce Chianti wine and olive oil, which is available for purchase directly from the farm. The Castello has recently been carefully renovated, preserving the original rooms just as they have always been, with antique furniture, large 17th century stone fireplaces, splendid floors made in terracotta, stone and marble. It is, however, equipped with every modern convenience: central heating, Internet connection, satellite TV, and laundry service. The garden, which overlooks the valley, is surrounded by centuries-old trees, and on the stone panoramic terrace you will find a large swimming pool with a Roman staircase lined with mosaics, two bathroom/dressing rooms, and plenty of lounging furniture. Next to the pool area is also a hydro massage pool (3.5x2.5 m). From here you also access the gymnasium and sauna. The entire terrace is brilliantly lit up at night by large, wrought iron lamps.

The Castello is five kms from Monte San Savino where there are excellent restaurants and other conveniences, and six kms from the A1 motorway exit. Centrally located, must-see places such as Florence, Arezzo, Cortona, Siena, Montepulciano, and Perugia are less than an hour away. Rome is just an hour and a half away.

The staff who look after the Castello live in an independent apartment at the rear.

Included in the price: Maid service two times a week for six hours (12 hours total), one set of pool towels/week, and 1 change of bath and linens during the week.

At extra cost and upon request: Lunch and dinner prepartation ($45 - $60 per person), additional maid service.

Castello San Savino is arranged on three floors, each offering its own unique arrangement of bedrooms, bathrooms, living rooms, and kitchens. The main house sleeps 16 guests, and the annex (with two floors and access from the outside) sleeps six. For supreme comfort, air conditioning and heating are available throughout the Castello (payable upon consumption). The main kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, stove, large refrigerator/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and American coffee maker. The expansive dining room can seat up to 22 guests and offers direct access out to the garden area. Under the gazebo is a second table, also seating 22, perfect for al fresco dining.

There are 8 bedrooms in the main house to accommodate up to 20 people as follows:

8 bedrooms on 3 floors:

Living room, large kitchen, Dining room and 2 double bedrooms with 2 bathrooms on ground floor.
Living room, 1 double bedroom and 1 bathroom on first floor.
2 double bedrooms with 2 bathrooms.
1 bedroom with 2 double beds and 1 bathroom.
1 double bedroom with 1 double bed and 1 single bed an 1 bathroom.
1 bedroom with a double bed and 1 single bed and 1 bathroom.

The 8 double bedrooms are nicely decorated in a classic, Tuscan style. All have en-suite bathrooms and most come with Satellite TV. Large, stone fireplaces are interspersed throughout the Castello, and floors one and two offer small, but complete, kitchens.

Needless to say, Castello San Savino would provide a perfect venue for an intimate wedding, family reunion, or for a special birthday/anniversary celebration. Its location is ideal for exploring all that Tuscany has to offer!

Monte San Savino rises in the valley of Chiana, on a hill dominating the valley of the Esse torrent. The local economy is mainly based on the production of cereals, fruit, vegetables, grapes, olives and sugar beets. There are also many factories manufacturing pottery, furniture, and frames. The place name comes from a compound of \"Monte\" (mount) and the Latin name of person \"Sabinius\". The first settlements in the territory of Monte San Savino probably go back to the Age of the Etruscans, and later ,the Romans.

Among the most important monuments to see in Monte San Savino are the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista (Saint John Baptist Church), the Chiesa di Sant\'Agostino (Saint Augustine Church), the Chiesa di Santa Chiara (Saint Chiara Church), the Loggia del Mercato (Gallery of the Market) and the Museo delle Ceramiche (Museum of the Potteries). Numerous celebrations periodically take place in Monte San Savino, including the "Sagra della Porchetta Savinese" held on the first half of September. The festival celebrates the "Porchetta" of Monte San Savino, that is, the typical sausage based on pork meat made according to some ancient and traditional recipes. The "Porchetta" is flavored with fennel, garlic and black pepper and is quite delicious.
