Lost in the Woods is a large, luxury villa built of massive peeled pine trunks, just a short and stunning drive from the small town of Wilson. Set among well-spaced neighbors, old-growth forest and towering trees, Lost in the Woods feels almost as far-flung as its name. Understated, spacious, welcoming, full of handcrafted furniture and gorgeous, rustic details. Open, sunny rooms flow into each other with effortless elegance; intimate spaces encourage conversation, all of it suffused with the golden glow of natural wood and Wyoming sunshine.

A sunny, stone-floored foyer sets the easy-going tone. Straight ahead is the great room; to the left the roomy kitchen, where pendant lights hang from the beamed ceiling and a long, granite-topped breakfast bar and separate center island provide plenty of workspace. French doors in the kitchen open to a wide, wood deck with a free-standing stone hearth and comfy seating area. the wonderful outdoor fireplace and the forest beyond. A spectacular kitchen table handmade from a single four-foot-wide plank adds a dash of woodsy luxury to the space.

Lost in the Woods is a happy house, a kid’s (and grownup’s) paradise. Indoor and outside spaces are relaxed and welcoming; the yard has lots of room to play. Just down the road, the wonderful gourmet markets of Wilson offer high-quality, locally grown foods all year round. On summer nights, bring back a haul of just-picked vegetables and steaks and have a feast out by the fire.

A vaulted great room stands at the center of the house, a welcoming and fire-lit crowd-pleaser at the end of a lively day. Deep club chairs and a handsome leather couch are gathered round a coffee table crafted from a slice of a giant tree. There is a hand-built stone fireplace, built-in cupboards and a flat screen television. A vast picture window marries the peaceful interior to the deep green forest outside. French doors lead to the deck.

Lost in the Woods has seven large, welcoming bedrooms; the master suite is on the main level, just off the great room. It’s a spacious room with a traditional Western feel: hefty log walls, beamed ceiling and French doors leading to a private balcony. A big, hand-hewn bed stands in the center, piled with pillows. Tables and reading lamps flank the bed. In the master bathroom, a deep, jetted tub and double sinks have dark polished stone surround; there is a separate walk-in shower.

Upstairs, two light-filled bedrooms have striking, custom-made wood beds and private bathrooms, each with a walk-in shower. Between the two is a charming bedroom with two queen beds, a big window and a sloping beamed ceiling. A full bath is just outside.

The lower level of Lost in the Woods is hang-out central. A big open game room, with a crescent-shaped bar, plenty of barstools, and a full-size pool table; punched tin pendant lights add a bit of rustic dazzle. A trio of dark leather sofas face a huge flat-screen television and just behind a sliding barn door is a home theater, with a long, low-slung sectional couch, a movie screen and sound system.

Two bedrooms stand off the game room. The first has a big, cloud-soft bed topped with crisp cotton; the second has two hewn-wood twin beds standing side by side, and a bathroom just off to the side. The whole downstairs of Lost in the Woods is like a world of its own. A door opens out to the backyard and the hot tub.

Above the three-car garage is a private, spacious apartment, with a fully-equipped kitchen, a living room and a cheery, cabin-like bedroom with a king bed. Extra guests, visiting grandparents or anyone who might appreciate being off the beaten path will appreciate the apartment’s atmosphere of restful seclusion. From the balcony, you can see the top of Rendezvous Peak.
