Casa Jorge is a semidetached villa, the first one in the row of five in the romantic small gardens of Marshall Retreat, Betalbatim, South Goa. It is being rented to lovers of vast beaches, good food and cultural experience. Beautifully kept gardens and a swimming pool are a part of the complex (swimming pool is closed for maintenance in monsoon)
Casa Jorge consists of living room/dining room, separate fully equipped kitchen, three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, two balconies next to the upper floor bedrooms and a terrace attached to the master bedroom with a view into the palm trees. It is fully furnished with tasteful furniture and artistically decorated with pictures and other artistic objects including a collection of musical instruments. All bedrooms are air conditioned.
Facilities: a cleaning service and change of the bed linen and towels ONCE A WEEK, preparing breakfast or cooking all meals on request (first class cook trained with us for the last 12 years – Indian and international kitchen - extra charge, his availability has to be checked in advance), small library with books in 3 languages (English, German, Czech), television (cable).
Casa Jorge used to be our second home. It contains various objects of arts – paintings and our collection of musical instruments hanging from the ceiling in the lounge. Some paintings are self explaining pleasant motives: women resting under the palms, Indian couple in love, white blossoming flower, bouquet of lilies, beach impressions of people from the period before the war, prints from the Czech capital Prague.. but there are also two paintings which maybe need some explanation.
A big painting in the living room by German artist Christoph Freitag was exhibited for some time in the Museum of Modern Art in Duesseldorf, Germany. The topic is the comparison of the German and British culture on the example of two outstanding novelists. For German side, Guenter Grass with his novel The Tin Drum (the boy whose head is collaged in the picture is the drummer), for the British side, James Joyce with his novel Ulysses (the man wearing hat is James Joyce himself). There is also a British telephone box, a double decker, London sites, Gothic Cathedral in Koeln/Germany etc. in the painting.
The small framed picture next to it A.V.E. Wallenstein, is a reproduction of a painting by a well-known Russian painter living in the Czech Republic Michail Ščigol (over 90 exhibitions, one of them also in the building of European Parliament in Brussels) accompanied by a poetic text in French by our friend Jiri Kostelecky about a famous Bohemian military leader in the Thirty Years´ War (1618 – 1648). Wallenstein had a great influence on the outcome of this war and on further development of all Europe after.
Casa Jorge is ONLY 10 - 15 minutes walking distance from the beach, a nice walk through a palm grove, passing by two smaller hotels which will serve you meals in case that you would not like to use the services of our cook or make the dishes yourself. However, during the season, there are also many temporary shacks on the beach, which prepare tasteful lobsters, fruit de mer, fresh fish and wonderful cold drinks.
