Why a holiday villa in Extremadura

Extremadura is often overlooked by tourists flocking to other parts of Spain, but this hidden gem has so much to offer for those seeking a unique and authentic holiday experience. From its rolling countryside and mountainous regions, perfect for hiking and exploring, to the charming historic towns like Trujillo and Plasencia, there's no shortage of culture and history to discover.

Renting a villa in Extremadura allows you to truly immerse yourself in this beautiful region, enjoying the peace and tranquility of rural life while still being within easy reach of all its many attractions. With a private villa as your base, you can plan your day at your leisure, perhaps starting with a leisurely breakfast on your own patio before heading out to explore the local countryside or visiting one of the many historic sites that dot the landscape.

When to rent a villa in Extremadura

When it comes to planning a villa holiday in Extremadura, the timing is crucial to ensure that you make the most of your trip. The region experiences a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters, making it an ideal destination for those seeking year-round sunshine. However, if you're looking for the best time to visit, spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) are the ideal periods. During these times, the temperatures are pleasant, ranging from 18-25°C (64-77°F), with minimal rainfall and plenty of sunshine.

Summer is the peak tourist season in Extremadura, with July and August being the warmest months, but it's also the time when the region can get quite crowded. If you're looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, consider visiting during the shoulder season (June or September), when the temperatures are still pleasant, and the crowds have thinned out slightly. Winters, on the other hand, are generally cooler and wetter, but they offer a unique opportunity to explore the region's charming towns and villages without the summer tourists. If you're looking for a villa holiday with a focus on outdoor activities like hiking or biking, spring and autumn might be the best time for you, while those seeking a more relaxed pace can consider visiting during the shoulder season or winter.

Where to go in Extremadura

While Extremadura as a whole offers a unique and authentic Spanish experience, there are certain regions and towns that stand out for their particular charm and attractions. For those seeking a more lively atmosphere, cities like Cáceres and Badajoz offer a great nightlife scene with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. Meanwhile, the scenic coastal town of Hervás is perfect for those who love the beach, with its beautiful coves and sandy beaches just waiting to be explored.

Alternatively, if you're looking for a more peaceful retreat, the countryside towns of Jerte and Navalmoral de Baja are must-visits, offering stunning natural scenery and picturesque villages to wander through. Here you can enjoy leisurely walks, visit local markets, and sample some of Extremadura's famous cuisine in its many family-run restaurants. The region's smaller towns also offer a more affordable option for villa rentals compared to the larger cities, making them an ideal choice for those on a budget.
