Casa do Sol is set in a cul-de-sac in a quiet “urbanization” in the centre of Arco da Calheta, one of the most prized locations on the island of Madeira due to its setting, its favourable micro-climate and its convenience for innumerable excursions – including several challenging hikes beginning from the house itself (to the Levada Nova and beyond), for those so inclined. Situated at the end of a row of houses, and sheltered by a wall made of local Madeira stone (basalt), Casa do Sol offers a high degree of privacy, both outside and within.
Post office, cafés, ATM machine, small shops, hairdresser, etc. are just a short walk away, via the system of veredas, largely bypassing roads with cars. The owners live adjacent to the property and are happy to provide personalized guidance on local hiking and walks, for those who wish to take advantage of the extraordinary possibilities that Madeira offers.
The house itself is of a modern design, tastefully decorated, with an “open plan” kitchen/dining/lounge. On the main level there are three bedrooms, two having direct access to the pool deck. A second lounge area, on the lower level, can be converted into a completely independent fourth bedroom when the house is occupied by more than 6 people. All four bedrooms offer extra-long (2 meter) beds with extremely comfortable memory-foam mattresses. The kitchen is very well equipped and comes with all of the essentials you'll likely need (including olive oil and spices).
