Villa 'The Magi'

Capri island is quite small and easily explored on foot but it does have two separate towns or villages, Capri and Anacapri. Each town is perched high on a leveled plateau and each offer unique views of the Bay of Naples. Villa I Magi is an enchanting location to enjoy the best that Capri has to offer. Only a short walk from the Anacapri Village, the main structure of the villa is centuries old but house dates probably from the late-nineteenth or early-twentieth century. The villa has recently been renovated with a new floor plan, yet all the original features remain intact, including the ceramic tiles on the floors and on the mantelpiece of the antique and fully functioning fireplace.

The villa sits only a few steps from the Anacapri Post Office bus stop and, while conveniently located, is set back from the main road for privacy and quiet. All the main beaches of the island are easily reachable via public transit or a rented scooter but the most enjoyable sights of Capri can only be reached on foot. From the villa, guests may easily admire the local flora and fauna on the walk to the Migliara Belvedere, one of the most beautiful viewpoints to take in the magic views of the ocean. If you time your walk to reach the Migliara around lunch or dinner time, you will reward yourself with the traditional home-style 'ravioli Capresi' and other specialty cuisine in the remote privacy of La Gelsomina, but if you miss it, you may walk to town to La Rondinella and savor home-made pasta, pizza, and other local specialties in lively company. Keep a phone on you and do try and call 'La Gelsomina' to request a complimentary pick-up. Sometimes someone will be able to come and sometime not but always know that Capri and Anacapri folks are generally reserved, but always kind and generous, as well as incredibly hard-working; but if they can, they help.

Villa I Magi is a convenient starting point for day excursions to Monte Solaro, the Lighthouse, the Forts, the Blue Grotto, and the popular Villa San Michele, with Dr. Axel Munthe's ecletic collection of antiquities, or the Villa Damecuta, one of several ancient Roman villas that dot the most enchanting sites of the island. Among them, Villa Iovis, famously beloved of Roman Emperor Tiberius, is perched on the homonymous cliff with an unmatched view of the Penisola Sorrentina and the Vesuvius. The highest point of the island, however, is Monte Solaro in Anacapri. The peak is easily reachable via chair lift but the adventurous climb down the mountain path to savor the spectacular views. There is also a walking path that reaches Capri from Anacapri, but only the truly fearless climb down this ancient steps that lead first to the Due Golfi viewpoint and then to Marina Piccola.
