#### Location
The Galician region is very green and lush with mountains and pine & eucalyptus forests dotted throughout. It has a mild climate and a similar amount of rainfall to the UK but predominantly dry summers. It is a region rich in tradition, culture and history and where many say you can experience the real Spain. The region is great for cycling and hiking and has many routes to choose from. Santiago de Compostela is the capital city of Galicia and is the famous end of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, the city's old town is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is worth trying to make room in your itinerary to explore this beautiful historical city.

Villa Abeledo is located in a quiet and beautiful rural area in the municipality of Curtis, the closest town is Teixeiro which is only an 8-minute drive away, here you will find a selection of restaurants, supermarkets and shops, there is also a train station. The villa is located 40 minutes from A Coruna Airport.

Riazor beach located in Orzan Bay and is a 45-minute drive away. This popular white sandy beach with blue waters is a great place to spend the day, there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from in this area. This beach is popular for surfing, sailing and windsurfing, the water can be a little choppy but there are lifeguards on duty. The most visited beach in Galicia is Cathedrals Beach known locally as As Catedrais, this famous and stunning area is located 1 hours' drive from the villa and is well worth the journey. This beach gets its name from the large arched rock formations along the coast. Walking through these giant natural archways is something you won't forget, just remember it can only be accessed in low tide.

Galician cuisine is quite different from what you would expect to find in Spain, it also has some Portuguese influence due to their proximity. On the menu expect to find a lot of seafood and hearty stews. Here are a few delicious examples for you to try out: Empanadas Gallega may remind you a little of a samosa, it is a crunchy pastry usually filled with onions, garlic, peppers, paprika combined with meat or seafood. Pulpo a la Gallega, is a simple dish of boiled octopus cut in to pieces served with olive oil and smoked paprika, these delicious tender pieces melt in your mouth. Caldo Gallega is a dish eaten most typically during the colder months. This tasty stew consists of pork, chorizo, potatoes, white beans and greens. If you are looking for something sweet then try the Tarta de Santiago, this dense but moist dessert is made with almonds, flour, eggs and sugar. This sweet treat is usually finished off on top with powdered sugar in the shape of the famous cross of St. James.
