Description

This blissful villa has magnificent sea views that stretch across a lush green forest, all the way to the horizon. Renovated in 2016, the villa presents classy cream exteriors teamed with stone fortification wall details, it has a deep blue infinity pool where you can gaze out at the view as you take a refreshing swim. It really is the jewel in the crown of this sensational villa. Kommeno is a great location for a relaxing summer holiday - tucked away from the hustle and bustle yet not too far from Corfu town. The open plan living room is the perfect spot to relax after exploring Corfu, with a soft grey corner sofa with plenty of cushions to sink into. There is another dining table here with stunning black bamboo chairs and a cosy white fireplace, adding to the old-world romance theme. The charming kitchen is beautifully equipped for self-catering, decorated in natural wood and including a microwave, chrome coloured extractor fan, an oven and a dishwasher. This means there should be no squabbles about the washing up! Bedrooms are also decked out in a neutral colour scheme, with honey-coloured bedspreads that dress the double beds. The headboards are plush and quilted, while quirky, colourful art is framed on the walls and the floors are made of luxurious wood. Up to 12 guests can stay at this villa, so it's perfect for families travelling together or groups of friends on holiday. Ensuite bathrooms have powerful showers and are decorated with natural stone and glass. Enormous mirrors hang on the walls, while dual sinks are efficient for couples or those sharing a room. An outdoor living theme runs through the villa, from the ample balcony space to the formal dining table out on the spacious terrace, surrounded by nature. In the garden, there is a striking sculpture filled with red flowers and an intimate table on the lush lawn - perfect for a picnic! By the pool, there is a luxurious day bed filled with cushions where guests can curl up and take a nap.

Peaceful, tranquil Kommeno is the villa's namesake - it's a beautiful corner of Corfu, covered in dense forestry and encircled by swirling deep blue and turquoise water. Known as one of the elite areas of the island, Kommeno has many fancy hotels and restaurants along the shoreline. Drop in to see a cabaret show or enjoy a delicious cocktail. The villa is also close to the resorts of Dassia and Gouvia, which both have beautiful blue flag beaches. Dassia beach is made up of sand and shingle and has crystalline waters. Gouvia is just seven minutes' drive away, with a classy marina and some delicious local food to try. The villa is 9km from Glyfada, a lively beach guarded by tree-covered cliffs. Rent a sunbed from one of the beach bars and take a walk along the supremely soft sand. The adventurous among you can get involved in numerous watersports and even an inflatable assault course. At night, dine in one of the tavernas in the tiny village. A visit to Gastouri is a thoroughly enjoyable trip for visitors to Corfu. The village is also known as Acheillio, after the famous summer palace of Empress Sisi of Austria. Located just 30 minutes away, the palace draws intrigue due to its historical and cultural significance. The palace was built in 1898 by an Italian architect and Greek sculptor with inspiration from Greek mythology. Iconic statues of Zeus, Hera and Achilles himself are dotted around the palace, which is surrounded by dazzling gardens and boasts incredible views of the Ionian Sea. Corfu is the second largest of the Ionian Islands and has strong Venetian influence in the architecture, as well as Byzantine. Literally translated as 'a pair of peaks', the island has two hills topped with fortresses that once successfully defended the island from the Ottoman Empire. The largest of the hills has a lighthouse with spectacular views over the sea. The Old Town has a myriad of narrow, winding lanes, filled with Venetian and Neoclassical architecture, painted in sunny yellow and orange. Just off Spianada Square, where locals congregate for coffee and socialising, is the Old Fortress on the site of an acropolis atop a rocky peninsula. Visitors can walk up to the highest point for breathtaking views, passing a small chapel and museum along the way. A popular trip from Corfu is to nearby Pontikosini (Mouse Island) where there is a tiny Byzantine monastery surrounded by pine and cypress trees. According to local legend, this is the spot of Ulysses' ship after it was turned to stone by the wrath of Poseidon. The island gets its name as it's said to be the outline of a mouse when you look at it from above. A day at the beach is what springs to mind when booking a holiday to Corfu - and with so many to choose from, you could try a different beach every day! Canal d'Amour is a popular beach in Sidari, the northwest side of the island. This beach has gorgeous sand and turquoise water, but the unique element is the rectangular rock with a gap that you can swim through on a calm day. It's said that couples who swim through together will get married within the year. A spectacular beach on the west side of the island is Agios Spyriodon - you can drive across the island to reach it. Two-tone, crystalline waters make up the bay, and an endless stretch of golden sand makes up the beach. Many of the beaches have pebbles in this area, so this beach is considered one of the best. The monastery of Agia Ekaterini stands proudly nearby, as well as plenty of coffee shops and restaurants. There are plenty of tasty treats to tuck into on Corfu, such as bourdeto, which is rockfish in a tomato sauce with plenty of onions and garlic, and pastralio, with fried aubergine layered with cheese and baked with boiled eggs, pancetta or salami, with a tomato and basil sauce. For the adventurous, try sofrito - veal cooked in a wine sauce with white pepper and garlic and served with rice or mashed potato.
