#### Location
This magnificent villa is just six kilometres from the historical city of Silves. Silves is a delightful, traditional Portuguese town steeped in Algarvean culture and history. Once the ancient capital of Algarve, today Silves is a vibrant tourist town that maintains its original feel.
During the Moors era, Silves was a major defensive stronghold and pre-eminent trading town. Remnants of its historical past can be seen when exploring from Silves - from huge red brick castle, ancient city walls and gothic cathedral.
Silves is both historically intriguing and picturesque; set within Algarve countryside on the banks of slow-flowing Rio Arade river. The town encapsulates a distinctly Algarvean flavour, with open air cafes, cobbled streets and bustling day to day life.
Silves Castle is well worth a visit, full of tales of Moorish intrigue, it hasn't been altered much since the days of Almohad Caliphate in the 12th and 13th centuries. Beneath ground level, visitors can take in a ten meter high cistern that descends sixty meters below earth level. The cathedral and archeology museum will also interest history enthusiasts.
Nowhere gives a greater flavour of everyday life more than a local market - and Silves market which is on six days a week is a hub of Portuguese authentic life! The liveliest day is Saturday, when traders from around the region come to town to set up their stalls in the square.
For trips further afield, the wonderful beach of Praia dos Beijinhos is fifteen kilometres from the villa, whilst the award winning golf course of Golf Amendoeira Resort is nine kilometres away.
There really is something for everyone in the Silves region. Golf players or those who love water sports won't be disappointed, whilst culinary enthusiasts can take advantage of the many restaurants offering fresh seafood and other delights.
For those who wish to venture further afield, day trips to Albufeira and Loule are worth considering. Boat and coastal tours offer a leisurely pace for exploring
Whether it be pretty historic streets and traditional plazas, a business golfing trip or a culinary adventure, this corner of Southern Portugal has it covered.
