The wide expanses of golden, and often empty, sandy beaches are where the tidal island of Lindisfarne, locally known as Holy Island and the birth place of Christianity, can be viewed.
Waren Mill is steeped in history and only 2 miles north, once an important port, its harbour has long since disappeared, silted up beneath the sands of the estuary. Bude Bay is a bird sanctuary, and at low tide a vast expanse of mud flats is the home to countless thousands of sea and land birds, making this location a haven for bird watchers. The traditional fishing port of Seahouses is only 3 miles south. Take a boat trip from its harbour to the Farne Islands – famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony.
