The general area, known as ‘Joyce Country' is a place of outstanding natural beauty, a native Irish speaking (Gaeltacht) area and it is truly a place to immerse in the calm of rural life. Great in all seasons, Connemara and Clew Bay area are on your doorstep. Set among stunning mountains and lakes, Cottage 422 Tourmakeady is nestled between the mountain ranges of Maumturk and Party. It overlooks Maumtrasna mountain and is just 50 metres (with lake access) from Lough Mask - one of the largest lakes in Ireland. Popular activities people enjoy when staying here are renting a fishing boat (experience required - hire on-site), lake swimming, walking the great local trails, hiking, take scenic drives and visiting picturesque tourist villages and towns like Leenane, Cong and Westport, take a boat tour on Killary Fjord (24km). Cycle through miles of ice carved mountains and lakes, see nearby Lough Nafooey, popular with photographers, walkers, and fishermen. Visit a local working hill sheep farm and watch the sheepdogs herding Connemara Blackface sheep. Try your hand at exciting outdoor adventure sports activities at the nearby Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre (13km/20 mins). While being located in a very rural setting, you're still not far from local bars, restaurants, shops and amenities. The Larches Bar in Finny is a traditional Irish music pub with regular sessions is 5.6km/10 mins away by car. Máire Luke's Bar & Restaurant in Tourmakeady is just 12km/10 mins drive with Paddy's Bar & Restaurant a little further on. Clonbur village is 15km/20 minutes' drive where you'll find the nearest convenience store. The villages of Finny (4.7km), Clonbur (14.5km), Tourmakeady (17km), and Cong (20km), are all a short drive from the accommodation. Larger towns such as Ballinrobe (30km), Westport (44km) and Castlebar (46km) are not too far away either.

Access via a secluded farm road taking you far away from any light or noise pollution. The property is surrounded by a small, enclosed lawn. Enjoy the use of a terrace and picnic bench while overlooking Lough Mask - the lakeshore is just metres away. The accommodation is all on ground floor level and consists of a living room with dining space, a kitchen, three bedrooms and a family bathroom. The bedrooms are one double and two twin rooms, sleeping up to 6 guests. Bedroom 1 has one double bed. Bedroom 2 has two single beds and bedroom 3 has two single beds. One bathroom with bath, electric shower, and toilet. The living area can seat 6 comfortably and includes a woodburning stove for those cosy evenings. To allow you to fully disconnect, there is no T.V., Wi-Fi or phone signal at this property. Games and books are provided. The kitchen has the following amenities: electric hob and oven, microwave, washing machine, fridge freezer, electric kettle, toaster. No dishwasher. Tiled living and kitchen area, bedrooms carpeted.
