There are whitewashed timber ceilings, cool slate or polished wood flooring, quirky chandeliers and traditional shutters throughout, while each room has been tastefully decorated in its own beautiful individual palette, from rich jade and vibrant ochre to smoky grey and pale cream. In the lounge, crimson walls provide a magnificent backdrop for dramatic artwork while comfortable sofas and day beds scattered with plump silk cushions offer an inviting and restful spot to listen to music on the Bluetooth speaker provided or if its family entertainment you crave, sit back and relax and watch your favourite TV shows and films on either Apple TV or Netflix.

On the first and second floors, the three ensuite bedrooms are both restful and stylish, with luxurious bed linen, distinctive lighting and elegant mirrors. The master suite, Stanza Turchese, has an indulgent free-standing slipper bath while the other two, Stanzas Grigia and Viola, are each fitted with their own modern showers and dressing rooms that can also be used as single bedrooms.

With the region’s abundance of fresh produce on hand, from olive oil and white truffles to pecorino cheese and wild boar, preparing mouth-watering meals over a glass of chilled prosecco in the traditional-style kitchen is a joy, whether served in the chic dining area beyond the central fireplace or outside in the courtyard patio. On the delightful sun terrace, curvaceous loungers are surrounded by terracotta planters overflowing with fragrant blooms, while stone steps lead down to the pretty lawned garden where the private plunge pool is perfect for cooling off in the heat of the day.

From Castelmuzio there are magnificent views across the olive groves towards distant hilltop villages and rolling hills dotted with farmhouses and iconic cypress trees. The atmospheric village itself, with its cobbled alleyways, piazza and traditional Tuscan architecture, has a pleasant bar and restaurant as well as a small grocery shop. A wider choice of restaurants can be found in nearby Pienza.
